Drop Zone Implementation

    Good afternoon, everyone,

We are working on strengthening our Drop Zone procedures and enhancing the overall onsite setup.

Are there any preferred pieces of equipment currently in use? Additionally, do any EDBs have exclusions regarding when Drop Zones may be implemented? Facing some resistance to Drop Zones when undertaking pole replacements.

Thank you in advance for your input.

    hi Craig

In the wind industry we have a standard minimum default distance of 1/5th the height of a wind turbine as our drop zone. any working at height we also mandate that all hand tools, phones, radios, bags etc have to be tethered.

If you are getting push back on setting up drop zones due to the working environment i would enforce the tethering of all tools and equipment and that no persons should be below anybody working at height. Though this may not always be possible which is why tethering of tools has to be mandated where practicable.

    hope this helps

Hi Craig, what is your email, I can flick some details of what we are starting to implement.

We are using signs etc and moving them to suit the task and alter them throughout the day.

Hi Craig, I would be interested in hearing how you got on with this, currently reviewing our Falling Objects Crit Risk profile and Drop Zone management is an area we have flagged for improvement.
